Distance

The gulf between us widens
With every passing day
Now I don’t know what to think
And I don’t know what to say

I no longer feel I’m special
I no longer feel a part
There is now a gaping chasm
Right here within my heart

I don’t know what you are thinking
I don’t know what’s on your mind
The closeness we once shared
Seems so very far behind

There’s a coldness in that distance
There’s a chill that wasn’t there
There’s a sense that you don’t need me
And I feel that you don’t care

I thought we had a special bond
That would last until the end
I know we can’t be lovers
But I still need you as a friend
