Status Quo.

by la_spice @ Saturday, Jun. 28, 2008 - 22:21:31

Saturday Night In

Comfortable old slippers
Waiting by the door
Easy to slip into
Like so many times before

Nothing very special
Doesn’t cause a stir
But such an easy option
And always waiting there

What’s the point of changing?
The years are fleeting by
Just wear those comfy slippers
Until the day you die

Too late for running barefoot
Too late for being wild
Too late for acting crazy
Just like a little child

So wear your cosy slippers
And sit beside the fire
And watch those burning embers
Forget about desire

I don't wear slippers. Maybe just for that reason. Yes I don't see them as comfy just defeatist. May it's self-denial ;)

I wear Birkenstocks around the house in summer

And Ugg boots in the winter.

The slippers in the poem are a metaphoric.

For me it's flip flops in the summer and Ugg type boots (pink) in the winter.

What the hell's an ugg-boot?

Flip-flops the year round for me...

Like a Yeti Boot - but only when it's really cold

You mean those silly furry slippers that have claws at the front?

You might only be young once, but you can be childish forever!

That's my motto and I'm sticking to it.

Just bought Hubby slippers for his birthday
Anything to stop him wearing his old ones with sticky tape wrapped around to hold them together
Hey, I wear toe socks, why should I care :))
Wear what you're comfy in, and be who you're comfy with, I say

It was: 'Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional'... but can't for the life of me remember who said it (wish I had)

But what about "familiarity breeds contempt"?

Depends on your definition of 'comfy', I suppose

Everything is subjective of course

It's often easier to maintain the comfy status quo than do anything about it.

Glad to hear it
I lay there till 5, then got up - but at least I slept all the way from 11 til 4:30 - 5 and a half hours is pretty good for me!
Nice here - about 25 I think - but I'm stuck inside working :(
So... better go!

There's that horrible cliche about 'stepping outside of you comfort zone', isn't there?
(Yes, I know I said I was going, but I just thought of this).
Must admit I live in my slippers (in winter, at least). Practical, with working from home.
But I like to think I've been shedding them metaphorically lately.

Come on you are young enough to go bare foot.as for forgetting desire forget that too!I'm older than you and keep my memory topped up !

This poem was a reference to someone settling for a cosy existance and certainly not me. I like running barefoot and still have desires - but that's another poem! ;)
