Being prepared!

by la_spice @ Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007 - 09:52:36

Don't panic when you read this! It's just me being practical and down to earth! Being a reasonably organised person and after being an administrator for most of my working life I think it's important to keep one's affairs in order. My family know my feelings about death which comes to us all sooner or later.

My Last Request

Don’t put me in the cold damp earth
Don’t leave me there alone
To let the earthworms have a feast
And leave me only bone

Don’t send me flowers when I’m dead
Don’t leave them there to fade
But plant a tree in my memory
In some quiet leafy glade

Don’t mourn for me when I am gone
Don’t speak then of what I’m worth
I’d rather hear those words of love
Whilst I’m still here on earth

Don’t think I’m morbid when you read
This poem that I’ve penned
It’s just a note to let you know
What I don’t want in the end!

That's lovely...

I was going to blog this image later today, but somehow it seems to illustrate your poem so well I thought I'd offer it to you first...

What strange timing! I've decided to use my Avatar picture instead - just to make it a little 'gentler' if you see what I mean.

Thank you anyway.

No problem... I'll continue with the blog I had intended then. :)

For those who wait to burry us
while we are still alive.
So that they could pay respect
For what is left of us.

Why don’t you spend your gentle hearts,
and money you’re bestowed
On honoring us while alive,
and let the dead just rot?

Exactly!

Thank you.

Well I agree that any thought of an afterlife is
[ wild ? ] speculation and that we need to demonstrate our love, affection, kindness and friendship while we are here just in case there isn't another opportunity.

I like the poem but generally prefer not to speculate too far into the future. My Mother often said ' Live every day as if it is your last '. David.

I heard this advice many times, but is it a real one? Would you have children if every day was your last? Would you take a job?

Some zen masters lived so, but they were just begging for food, and did not have families. Maybe this is the real way to live. Who knows? But how applicable is it to us, normal people?

Well your counter argument is well made and difficult to refute. david

It's one thing not speculating too far in the future but it's another thing burying one's head in the sand!

I think the whole truth can be merciless so burying ones head in the sand maybe the lesser of two evils david.

But very cowardly and a little defeatist!

Good post La_Spice, good comments, it's called being realistic.

Thank you Trevor - if you don't tell your loved ones what you want to happen how on earth will they know? I've even told my daughters they can pop my body in a plastic bag and put it out on rubbish collection day but I don't think this is allowed!

I like the poem and the sentiment contained. One of our earthly failings is communication whilst still alive. It's a little more difficult afterwards....but I don't think impossible :-)

We live fairly close to a large cemetery - I'm assuming when I go my family will just throw me over the wall....;)

I think that the firey furnace is preferable to the dark and the worms but my God I prefer not to go
at all !
'Whoop pee do' lets try and live on as long as possible and enjoy ! david

Missing the La_spice poems would be a disaster !

They usually provide rejuvenation for me. David.

We all have to go sometime and yes it's the firey furnace for me!

That said I'm going to live till I die!

I looked today for a more cheerful poem from you La_Spice but so far no luck. Will await the next outpouring with patience! david.
