As free as a bird!

On my way home today I passed an airfield where a glider was being winched into the air. This reminded me of the one time I had the opportunity to experience a flight in a glider. I recall the marvellous feeling of 'floating' in an eerie silence and felt moved to write these words:

Free Spirit

Flying free in a cloudless sky
Gently lifting my spirits high
Flying free just like a bird
Not a single sound is heard
Flying free and soaring still
Softest breeze gives me a thrill
Flying free - wind in my hair
Haven’t got a single care
Flying free and flying wild
Laughing like a little child
Flying free I want to be
As free as this eternally

I've never been up in a glider but have been told by those who have what a wonderful way to fly it is.
Mind you I might be a lifelong aviation enthusiast but I've never really enjoyed flying and much prefer being a sofa flyer.
I love the poem and may well make reference, and link to, this entry in one of my blogs sometime if I may.

I don't even like watching stuff filmed from a plane when I've watching a film - I have a terrible fear of heights!
Liked the poem and picture though!

another good poem. I have never experienced flight without engines. Never thought it was something I wanted to do, but after reading you poem I gona put it on my list of things to do before I die.....
