Following my "foodie" posting yesterday I was challenged by a blog "friend" to write a poem on the subject of "lava bread". As this so called "friend" is not a stranger to writing poetry I counter-challenge him. Here is my submission:
Double Dare
Now was it a challenge
Or was it a dare?
I really don’t know
I really don’t care
Ballpoints at dawn
The gauntlet was thrown
We both had to write
A poem of our own
The subject was chosen
(By him I must add)
He said it was ‘lava bread’
That really was bad
I picked up my pen
I was ready to fight
I tried and I tried
To find something to write
I’ve now written my poem
I have given my best
My blogfriend Usksider
Truly set me a test
I’ve tasted frogs in Paris
Didn’t like them it must be said
The delicacy I much prefer
Is delicious lava bread
It’s so tasty and nutritious
And it leaves you wanting more
You find it on Welsh beaches
Where it’s washed up on the shore
You wash it then you steam it
All the family can be fed
Quiet easily and cheaply
On their daily lava bread
There’s iron and vitamins
So do not be mislead
There’s lots of natural goodness
Found within this lava bread
So when you’re getting peckish
And you’re feeling light of head
Just nip down to the seaside
And collect some lava bread
Nature’s larder’s always open
There’s a welcome on the mat
So help yourself to lava bread
It’s as simple as all that
So now my poem is ended
I’ve finished off my verse
It’s now your turn Usksider
Go on - and do your worse
