I simply couldn't let Fathers' Day pass by without paying tribute to my dad. Not only was he father to five children of his own but he was, for many years, Superintedent of Shepherd Street Mission Children's Home in Preston. During that time he was substitute 'father' to countless children. This was written in very loving memory of my dad.
Reflections of a Man
Where is that man so strong, yet gentle
Who loved to have his children near
That man so kind and loving
Yet a man his family would revere
Where is he who proud and tender
Held his grandchildren on his knee
And told them tales to make them laugh
Oh where is he
Where is he who cared for others’ children
Who taught them right for wrong
Who showed them love and understanding
Where has this man gone
Where is he who by example
Influenced the lives of many other
Who was a friend to everyone
And anyone could call him brother
Look not for him nor weep nor mourn
Remember all the happy days
The special thoughts each one holds dear
And memories of his life and ways
Ask not why he had to die
Remember him and be glad
For those who never met this man
Are the ones who should be sad

Very touching, your father seemed to be a very good man. My father wasn't the best in the world, he wasn't the worst either, there were times I wished he'd leave, the times he was drinking, but we came through it as a family, and now today of all days I really miss him. He was very good with my dog, and I was brushing her in the shed earlier, and thought of my father then. I won't be making the telephone call today, like I have done for the past 20 years, since moving to the Isle of Lewis, although I'll still 'phone my mother to see how she is. Sorry for being so depressing, remember tomorrow is la_spice day. Cheers Gordon...
